Urban Fiber Optic

Laying urban fiber optic presents unique challenges. Because of limited space and excess traffic we need to be able to create very narrow trenches with little disturbance to the surrounding areas. Conscious of the obstruction to sidewalks and roads in urban areas, Marais has analysed pavement and road structures as well as construction materials to devise cost effective solutions perfect for use in urban areas. 

When laying urban fiber optic, our solution is to use our Cleanfast and Side Cut Micro Trencher

The application of Marais’ narrow and shallow trench technology solutions has the least impact on the environment when compared to alternative installation techniques. The reduction in transport and disposal costs also has a huge beneficial impact on the environment. Marais machinery is all hooded and soundproofed to ensure reduced dust and noise pollution.

Other benefits of using Marais Cleanfast Micro Trenchers when laying urban fiber optic, include:

  • Rapid installation rate of up to 600 metres per day, minimising traffic disruption
  • Reduced disturbance to motorists and pedestrians

  • Backfilling with thermally tested and/or excavated material to ensure strong integration of the trench in the road structure and a long lifespan
